Our Mission and Vision
Sanctuary Schoolhouse is a nonprofit (501c3 pending) microschool dedicated to expanding equitable access to high-quality, learner-centered education inclusive for all learners, including neurodivergent students in grades 5–12. Through game theory–based instruction and integrated STEAM programming, we strive to provide individualized, hands-on learning experiences to build academic skills, executive functioning, social-emotional growth, and real-world problem-solving. Our mission is to reduce educational barriers, close opportunity gaps, and empower students to achieve meaningful academic and personal outcomes.
Sanctuary Schoolhouse envisions an educational system where all students, regardless of learning differences or prior educational experiences, have access to supportive, adaptive learning environments that recognize their strengths. We strive to be a model for inclusive, community-rooted microschools that demonstrate improved student engagement, increased academic confidence, and long-term success through innovative, data-informed instructional practices and strong family and community partnerships.
Educational Philosophy
Sanctuary Schoolhouse is grounded in the belief that learning is most powerful when students feel safe, respected, and understood. We recognize that neurodivergent learners thrive in environments that prioritize flexibility, relationships, and relevance over compliance and standardization. Education should adapt to the learner, not the other way around!
Our instructional approach is embraces game theory, systems of thinking, and STEAM integration, by encouraging students to engage with complex problems, explore multiple pathways to solutions, and understand the consequences of choices in collaborative settings. Learning is experiential and inquiry-based, emphasizing hands-on projects, real-world applications, and interdisciplinary connections that deepen understanding and retention.
We value small learning communities that allow for individualized instruction, ongoing formative assessment, and meaningful mentorship. Academic growth is supported alongside the development of executive functioning skills, social-emotional learning, self-advocacy, and resilience. Students are taught to reflect on their learning, collaborate ethically, and take intellectual risks without fear of failure.
Sanctuary Schoolhouse views families and the broader community as essential partners in education. By fostering strong relationships and maintaining transparent communication, we create a shared commitment to student success. Our goal is not only academic achievement, but the cultivation of confident, capable learners prepared to navigate an evolving world with curiosity, creativity, and compassion.

Challenge your vocabulary in a more mature version of Hangman with Lexicon Core! Lexicon Core is a foundational microgame designed to sharpen a player's mastery over the building blocks of language. By deconstructing complex vocabulary and analyzing linguistic structures, players strengthen their communication "stats." Words used in this simulation are great for ACT/SAT preparation.
NWOKC Hybrid
Our Hybrid model allows for in person small group sessions based the grouping which would serve as a best fit for your player (student). These sessions may occur 1-2 times per week, depending on enrollment and availability. Outside of class sessions, players are required to work in their curricula and remain on pace for course completion by the end of the school year.
